The King leads congratulations for the Lionesses as England reach the World Cup final

King Charles III has congratulated the Lionesses as England scored a famous win that sent them into the World Cup Final.

A 3-1 victory over Australia put Sarina Wiegman’s team into the last two – they will play Spain for the World Cup.

His Majesty sent a message to the Lionesses to celebrate their win. However, Charles, King of Australia, also had commiserations for the losing si#de.

The King said ”My wife and I join all our family in sending the mighty Lionesses our warmest congratulations on reaching the final of the World Cup, and in sharing our very best wishes for Sunday’s match.

While your victory may have cost the magnificent Matildas their chance for the greatest prize in the game, both teams have been an inspiration on and off the pitch – and, for that, both nations are united in pride, admiration and respect.

It was signed ‘Charles R.’

Earlier, The Prince of Wales had congratulated the team. Prince William, who is President of the Football Association, took to social media within minutes of the final whistle going on the famous win to say ”what a phenomenal performance from the Lionesses – on to the final! Commiserations to the Matildas, you’ve played brilliantly and been fantastic co-hosts of this World Cup.”

The tweet was signed ‘W’..

England’s women secured their win in normal time, sending the Lionesses into the World Cup final for the first time.

It’s also the first time in nearly sixty years that the England national team has been in any football World Cup final. In 1966, the men won the World Cup with a 4-2 win in extra time in London.
