The Duke of Edinburgh sends good luck wishes to Paralympics GB as Paris 2024 begins

The Duke of Edinburgh has sent good luck wishes to the Paralympics GB team as the Paris Games get under way.

The message came just hours before the opening ceremony from Prince Edward, who is patron of the British Paralympic Association.

Looking ahead to the Paris Games, the Duke of Edinburgh said ”to all members of the Paralympics GB team heading for Paris, whether athletes, officials or staff, I want to wish you the very best of luck at the Paralympic Games.”

The Duke had an important message for all those who will represent Paralympics GB, saying ”particular congratulations to all athletes on being selected: you now have the chance to compete against the very best in the world and, indeed, to win. More importantly, we want you to go out there to achieve your best, to make us proud and to inspire the next generation.”

And Prince Edward added ”whatever happens, I hope you have a brilliant experience in France. The Paralympic Games is a unique event and the French will undoubtedly try to make it a memorable one for you and your fellow competitors. Enjoy every moment and, once again, good luck!”

The Duke of Edinburgh has been patron of the British Paralympic Association for over twenty years, taking on the role in 2003. He has attended many summer and winter games in that time and is expected to travel to Paris to cheer on athletes in 2024.

The Prince and Princess of Wales also sent a personal message to Paralympics GB ahead of the Games, saying ”Looking forward to another few weeks of incredible sport! Wishing the very best of luck to our Paralympics GB athletes and all those competing at Paris 2024.”

The message, on their official social media, was signed ”W & C”.

The Paralympics run in Paris from August 28th until September 8th 2024.
