The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to discuss creating safer online spaces in Time100 Talk

TIME Magazine has announced that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will curate a special edition of their TIME100 Talks on Tuesday, October 20.

The talk, which is free to all who register, is titled “Engineering a Better World” and convenes thought leaders and experts discussing the state of social media today and ways to make digital spaces safer and more trustworthy. The Time100 Talks are virtual talks that bring together leaders from various fields to discuss global issues and propose solutions for the betterment of society.

The Sussexes personally chose the speakers and themes of the talk. Speakers include TIME CEO Edward Felsenthal, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and Tristan Harris, President of the Center for Humane Technology. The Center for Humane Technology is a nonprofit focusing on the ethical use of technology, encouraging online platforms to combat online addiction, misinformation, and political extremism.

The Sussex’s TIME100 Talk highlights one of the core missions of their newly-formed nonprofit, Archewell, which seeks to create online communities that are compassionate, safer and more inclusive.

“Since launching in April, TIME100 Talks have focused on solutions and visions of a better future through conversations with extraordinary leaders from around the world,” said TIME editor in chief and CEO Edward Felsenthal. “This special episode marks our first collaboration, and we are thrilled to partner with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to explore these urgent issues.”
