The best pictures from a day of history in Edinburgh: King Charles and the Honours of Scotland

King Charles III has received the Honours of Scotland in an historic ceremony in Edinburgh.

His Majesty was presented with the Crown of Scotland by the Duke of Hamilton. King Charles placed his hand on the crown and promised a lifetime of service to the people of Scotland.

Queen Camilla was at His Majesty’s side throughout the day of history. The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, using the traditional titles of the heir to the throne in Scotland, were also at the ceremony which took place at St. Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh.

A People’s Procession had begun the celebrations for The King’s Coronation in Scotland. Over 100 people, representing many areas of Scottish life, walked proudly through the streets of Edinburgh from the famous castle to the Cathedral for the National Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication which saw the Honours of Scotland presented to Charles III.

Military from the Royal Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force took part in the parades that filled Edinburgh and accompanied the Honours of Scotland from the castle to St. Giles’ Cathedral.

The King and Queen, with the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, returned to Holyroodhouse Palace for a flypast by the RAF.

King Charles and Queen Camilla enjoyed the spectacle as the skies of Edinburgh were lit up in red, white and blue.
