What inspired the Duchess of Sussex’s wedding makeup?

It’s been just over a year since the Duchess of Sussex said her famous “I-Do’s” to Prince Harry. While the wedding was last year, people can’t help but to still talk about the Duchess’s bridal hair and makeup.

While Meghan is all over Pinterest as an inspiration to brides around the world, it turns out she actually used the platform to help her plan her wedding day makeup look.

Her Royal Highness’s longtime makeup artist Daniel Martin spoke with beauty podcast Gloss Angeles to share how everything came together for the big day.

“We exchanged Pinterest pictures over text. Pinterest is an incredible tool to use as a reference.”

Martin’s research paid off, the two didn’t even have a makeup trial before then- Meghan Markle walked down the aisle. In the podcast episode, Martin explains that the Duchess’s custom Givenchy dress played a role in her decision to go for minimal makeup.

“The dress [was] so architectural that if she had any more makeup on, you wouldn’t have even looked at the dress and that’s not what that moment is about.”

Since the wedding, Meghan’s look has served as an inspiration for many including Karlie Kloss. Kloss told Refinery29 that she looked to the Duchess when planning her look for her special day.

While the Duchess of Sussex can be a beauty inspiration, Martin urges brides to keep with their own personal style.

“You can’t stray too far from who you want to be and who you are, ‘I wasn’t comfortable in looking like that,'” Which is where Pinterest came in handy: “It’s finding those elements that you admire and you want to aspire to achieve, but at the same time, you have to have a sense of who you are in there.”

The Duchess of Sussex is currently on maternity leave after giving birth to Archie Harrison in May. Archie was born shortly before the Duke and Duchess celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary.
