Scotland Yard has launched an investigation after a letter addressed to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry was received which contained a white substance.
The letter was received this month at St James’s Palace and caused an anthrax scare.
After conducting tests on the power, experts concluded that the contents were harmless.
Ths suspicious package also contained a note, which according to reports was “racist in nature.”
Meghan Markle is from a mixed-raced background and has been subject to racism since it was announced that she was dating Prince Harry in 2016.
The Evening Standard newspaper broke the story and say that Harry and Meghan have been informed of the package.
The police investigation will seek to determine whether the suspicious package and racist letter were sent by the same person.
Scotland Yard said in a statement: “Police are investigating after a package containing a substance was delivered to St James’s Palace on Monday, 12 February.
“The substance was tested and confirmed as non-suspicious.
Officers are also investigating an allegation of malicious communications which relates to the same package. No arrests; inquiries continue.”
St James’s Palace and Kenginston Palace have refused to comment.
