Prince Harry at 37: His year in photos

The Duke of Sussex celebrates his 37th birthday on September 15th 2021. The younger son of the Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales, Prince Harry is sixth in the line of succession to the British throne. Having stepped away from his duties as a senior royal in March 2020, he has relocated with his family to California.

To mark Harry’s birthday, Royal Central is taking a look back on his past year.

October 2020

On 4 October, the Prince shows his support for the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon in Los Angeles. The 40th race took place on a closed-loop circuit around St James’s Park in central London.

November 2020

On 8 November, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex laid a wreath at the Los Angeles National Cemetery on Remembrance Sunday. In past years, the Duke has joined other members of the Royal Family laying a wreath at The Cenotaph in London. In 2020, Harry was said to be unhappy at not having a wreath laid there on his behalf.

February 2021

After settling into Southern California, Prince Harry joined talk show host James Corden for a special tour of his new home. From tea on an open-top bus to visiting the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” mansion, Harry got a one-of-a-kind tour of the city. Viewers also got to hear the more personal details of the royal’s life including what The Queen got his son Archie for Christmas.

On Valentine’s Day, the Duke and Duchess announced they were expecting their second child. Misan Harriman, a friend of the couple shared a special photo to mark their announcement. 14 February is also the same day the palace announced Prince Charles and Diana were expecting their second child, Harry, back in 1984.

March 2021

The Duke and Duchess sat down for a tell-all interview on CBS with Oprah Winfrey. The interview, which aired a day later in the UK, included revelations from Meghan that she had had suicidal thoughts while expecting her first child while the couple discussed claims of racism within the royal family and also focused on how they had dealt with media criticism. It also saw the couple claim to have married three days before their royal wedding in May 2018.

April 2021

After the Duke of Edinburgh died at the age of 99 on 9 April, Prince Harry flew back from the United States to attend his funeral. Harry walked with his relatives, including his brother Prince William, during the funeral procession.

A little over a month before Lilibet Diana, the Duke and Duchess’s second child was born, the Prince spoke at Global Citizen VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World. Held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, the Duchess taped a video message that played during the event.

July 2021

To mark the 60th anniversary of the birth of Diana, Princess of Wales, Prince Harry joined Prince William at the Sunken Gardens at Kensington Palace to unveil a statue of their late mother. Commissioned in 2017, the statue’s unveiling was delayed because of the global health crisis.

On 1 September, the Duke makes a video appearance at the 24th GQ Men of the Year Awards associated with BOSS at the Tate Modern in London.
