Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to hold photocall this afternoon in the Sunken Gardens

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will hold a photocall in the Sunken Gardens this afternoon following the news of their engagement.

Located on the grounds of Kensington Palace, the Sunken Gardens offer a serene backdrop for the photos. The gardens are also known to have been one of Diana, Princess of Wales’s favourite places.

The photocall will take place at 2pm, and will allow photographers to take pictures of the couple.

In 2010 during the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s photocall, reporters also got to ask questions. It is unknown whether this will be the case with Harry and Meghan, but there will be a broadcast interview to be aired this evening.

The photocall will be the first glimpse we get of Harry and Meghan together since the Invictus Games in Toronto.

It will also be an opportunity to look at the engagement ring Prince Harry used to propose.

Earlier this morning, Clarence House announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged to be married.

Since then, members of both families have released statements expressing their congratulations.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said: “We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.”

Before taking Meghan’s hand in marriage, Prince Harry sought and received the blessing of Meghan’s parents.

Meghan’s parents, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland, have released a statement saying: “We’re incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry.

“Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person.

“To see her union with Prince Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents.

“We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.”

Harry and Meghan will now live alongside Prince William and Catherine at Kensington Palace in Nottingham Cottage.

Clarence House confirmed on Monday morning that the couple is engaged to be married in Spring 2018.

Further details of the wedding day will be announced in due course.

Royal Central will keep you up to date with the engagement announcement throughout the day.
