With the weeks winding down until Baby Sussex is welcomed into the world, many people are eagerly awaiting the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first child.
Last May, nearly 30 million Americans watched as Prince Harry married Californian actress Meghan Markle. As the couple’s first child will be of two nationalities, many Americans are eager at the prospect of the first British royal baby to be born to an American mother.
J.D. Heyman, the Deputy Editor of People Magazine, said to Reuters:
“It’s going to be massive. When Meghan presents the baby, when Meghan and Harry step out onto a balcony…I think what you will see is an enormous outpouring of affection for the both of them.”
Heyman went on to add, “The excitement around this equals the births of certainly Prince William’s babies and, frankly, Harry and William’s birth(s)” which were more than 30 years ago.
Regardless of America’s War of Independence fought against Britain about 240 years ago, Americans have long been obsessed with Britain’s most famous family, the Royal Family.
With an American mother and a British father, many are wondering just how the Duke and Duchess will choose to raise their child, who will be a dual US/UK citizen from birth. Will there be a combination of American and English traditions?
British producer and co-founder of True Royalty TV, Nick Bullen said:
“Imagine raising an American royal in Britain. It’s hard enough I think for a lot of Americans to come to London and get to grips with boarding schools and prep schools and little caps and little shorts and how we raise children in the UK.”
Along with English traditions, Bullen touched on the potential questions that come on the American side of things.
“Will Doria, Meghan’s mum, be involved in the baby’s raising? Will it have holidays in California? Will it be doing baby yoga? People want to know all that level of detail.”
Meghan is currently on maternity leave as the baby is due in late April. The Duke and Duchess have revealed that they are waiting to keep the baby’s gender a surprise until birth.
No details regarding a hospital for the birth have been revealed. The couple is said to be moving from Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before the baby is born.
