The Sussexes

No Teen Choice award for the Duchess of Sussex

The Duchess of Sussex failed to win the Choice Style Icon award at the 2018 Teen Choice Awards in America last night.

Harry Styles, who shot to fame back in 2010 after appearing on the TV show The X Factor, beat the Duchess and took home the award. He is best known for being a member of the boy band One Direction who are currently on a hiatus.

The Duchess, who is 37-years-old, made history earlier this year by being the first royal ever to be nominated for a Teen Choice Award. Also nominated for the award were actress Blake Lively, actor Chadwick Bosman, hip-hop trio Migos and actress Zendaya.

The Choice Style Icon was an award that members of the public in the USA could vote for online. It was reported that the Duchess of Sussex politely declined the invitation for her and the Duke of Sussex to attend the awards show.

It is understandable the Duchess of Sussex was nominated for the award considering her being a fashion icon across the world. Often the outfits the Duchess wears sell out within hours, emphasising the impact she has on the fashion world.

The Teen Choice Awards is an annual event that first aired in 1999. Last night it was broadcast from LA on TV channel Fox. The awards were hosted by American rapper Nick Cannon with internet personality Lele Pons co-hosting.

The awards have an array of categories, including film, TV, music, fashion and sport. The big winners last night were the cast of Netflix’s Riverdale and Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther. Hit musical The Greatest Showman also won several awards.

The Duchess of Sussex reportedly also turned down an invitation to the Emmy Awards in LA next month, with her leaving her acting career behind her and focusing on royal life.
