Archie Mountbatten-Windsor made his debut royal appearance on Wednesday as he met with Archbishop Desmond Tutu in South Africa alongside his parents.

Dr Tutu, a hero of the anti-apartheid movement, said he was “thrilled by the rare privilege and honour” of meeting the Sussex family during their tour of the country.

Also present at the meeting was Dr Tutu’s daughter, Thandeka Tutu-Gxashe, who said Archie would have to get used to the cameras in his life.

Prince Harry joked: “I think he is used to it already.”

Desmond Tutu is no stranger to The Royal Family, with Prince Harry last meeting the 87-year-old in 2015 when the Queen appointed him as an honorary member of The Order of the Companions of Honour.

The visit to the Tutu Centre was the first event of a busy day for the Sussexes. Later today, Prince Harry will fly to Botswana to begin his leg of the tour there. Meghan has an engagement at the Woodstock Exchange where she will meet female entrepreneurs.

The Sussex family arrived in South Africa on Monday and their full tour of four southern African countries will last ten days in total.
