The Duchess of Sussex has expressed her concerns over the food systems in her home country. The Duchess made the remarks regarding the US food system yesterday during the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Investiture of the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace.
Meghan, who was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, spoke to Patrick Holden, who has worked with the Prince of Wales for a number of years and is a campaigner for organic food.
Mr Holden explained how the American is very well aware of the US food system practices, “The Duchess is very well aware of how industrial US food systems have become and the need to make a change.
“There was a lot of conversation about (how) badly wrong the US food systems are and how we need to act.”
He continued, “She is pregnant, and obviously wants to make sure she is eating the right things, not just for the health of the baby but also its mental health.
“We are what we eat, and our mental health is connected with what we eat.”
The Duchess is concerned about practices such as chlorine-washed chicken (to clean off bacteria), genetically modified crops, and hormones in beef.
Holden told the Daily Mail that they also spoke about the work Prince Charles has done over the years in sustainable farming, “We talked about the Prince of Wales’s leadership in the field of sustainable agriculture and how the farm at Highgrove is one of the most important exemplars of sustainable farming practice.”
“It is an example of the Prince’s vision made flesh,” he continued.
Her Royal Highness also revealed during the celebration that they were “nearly there” in regards to her pregnancy. The Duchess has said she is due at the end of April/beginning of May. No announcements have yet been made as to where she will give birth.
