Buckingham Palace says the Duchess of Sussex has gone into labour with the Duke of Sussex is at her side.
Her Royal Highness went into labour in the early hours of Monday morning.
The new royal baby will arrive within the next few hours
When he or she is born, the first to be informed will be Her Majesty The Queen with the other members of the family following.
It is expected Buckingham Palace will announce when the Duchess has given birth via press release and on the Sussex Instagram account after the new family has had some private time together. At that time, we will learn the baby’s sex and weight.
An easel will be placed outside the gates at Buckingham Palace shortly after, as is tradition.
As the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall travelled to the Lindo Wing to meet Prince George after his birth, it is believed they will travel to Frogmore Cottage to meet Prince Harry’s first child. It is also possible that Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland (if she is in the UK) will make the trip.
When the Duchess of York gave birth to her first child, Princess Beatrice in 1988, the then Princess of Wales brought Princes William and Harry to meet their new cousin. As it is a private birth, it is expected the Duke and/or Duchess of Cambridge will bring their children to meet the new addition their family once the new Sussex family of three is settled.
The Sussexes have chosen to avoid the famous Lindo Wing where Prince Harry was born in 1984, as was his older brother, Prince William in 1982. All three of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children were born in the same hospital and made their public debut on the famous steps several hours after.
Unlike the baby’s first cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, the new royal baby will not have a title. If it is a boy, he will be “Earl of Dumbarton”, and a girl would be “Lady (her Christian name)”.
