Buckingham Palace: “An announcement will be made soon”

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson has said that “an announcement will be made soon” following the news that the Duchess of Sussex has gone into labour.

So far, the palace has confirmed that Meghan went into labour in the early hours of Monday morning.

In a press release to journalists, the palace said: “The Duchess went into labour in the early hours of this morning. The Duke of Sussex was by Her Royal Highnesses’ side. An announcement will be made soon.”

Their next announcement will likely be one revealing the birth of the child.

Prince Harry is by Meghan’s side with the baby expected to arrive within the next few hours.

When he or she is born, the first to be informed will be Her Majesty The Queen with the other members of the family following.

It is expected Buckingham Palace will announce when the Duchess has given birth via press release and on the Sussex Instagram account after the new family has had some private time together. At that time, we will learn the baby’s sex and weight.

An easel will be placed outside the gates at Buckingham Palace shortly after, as is tradition.
