Stars of stage, screen and the airwaves recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours

Some of the best known actors in the United Kingdom have been recognised in the first King’s Birthday Honours List of the reign of Charles III.

Ahead of Trooping the Colour, the celebration of the Sovereign’s Official Birthday, the Honours List has been revealed.

Celia Imrie, star of stage and screen, is made a CBE for services to drama. Kenneth Cranham, whose career includes high profile roles in theatre and TV, is also made a CBE.

Line of Duty star, Vicky McClure, is made an MBE for services to drama and charity.

TV presenter, Davina McCall, is also made an MBE as is Ken Bruce. The radio star is recognised for his services to broadcasting as well as his charity work which includes raising awareness of autism.

Football legend, Ian Wright, who has also forged a successful broadcasting career is made an OBE.

Former hostage, Terry Waite, is made a member of the Order of St. Michael and St. George for his work helping those held captive around the world. He is now Sir Terry Waite.

A knighthood was conferred on novelist Martin Amis just before his death in May. He was informed of his honour and accepted it, with the Cabinet Office allowing it to be awarded ahead of the list being announced, so that he became Sir Martin on May 18th 2023, the day before he passed away.

There are 1,171 people on the first King’s Birthday Honours List of Charles III with over half being recognised for their contribution to their local communities.
