Souvenir teatowels? It must be time for a Jubilee

You can’t have a Jubilee without a souvenir teatowel and the release of the first official mementoes tied to the Platinum celebrations for the 70th anniversary of The Queen’s reign in 2022 didn’t disappoint. The appearance of souvenirs was another reminder that the countdown to this historic event is well and truly under way.

Elizabeth II will have reigned for 70 years as of February 6th 2022 but usually keeps that date privately as it is also the anniversary of her father’s death. Instead, the main Jubilee celebrations will take place in the first days of June and preparations for that big weekend continue alongside touching tributes that will provide a lasting legacy for the longest reign in British history. Here’s the latest Jubilee news.

Official Souvenirs

The first official souvenirs for the Platinum Jubilee were launched this week. The Royal Collection Trust has revealed a range of china, sweets and Christmas decorations that are now on sale in its shops to mark the monarchical milestone. There’s also an official book. However, no Jubilee is complete without a teatowel and the first official version of that celebratory staple is also now on the shelves.

A special canopy

The Queen’s Green Canopy continues to grow and in Remembrance week, two very special additions appeared within its branches. Two new Remembrance woodlands were planted by the Royal British Legion. Both are in Cornwall, with one at Falmouth and the other at Nasledan, the Duchy of Cornwall’s extension to Newquay. Each wood contains 100 trees, as the Legion celebrates its centenary.

Community plans

Meanwhile, plans continue in communities around the UK for celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of The Queen’s reign. The Bridgwater Carnival in Somerset will be part of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant and this week, updated supporters on the work now taking place on its Jubilee cart. And farming unions urged members to register to build and light a beacon as part of the Jubilee celebrations. It’s hoped that 70 beacons will be lit in every county of the UK on June 2nd 2022 as the Platinum Jubilee weekend begins.

There will be more Jubilee news next week.
