Sophie admits she’s no plans to climb a mountain

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have arrived in Nepal to begin their six-day trip and explained that one common bucket-list item is not on their to do memo.

Nepalese President Ram Chandra Paudel and wife Sabita Paudel welcomed the royal couple to the Presidential Palace in Maharajgunj where they signed the visitors book. The couple were impressed by a photo of Mount Everest behind the guest book and Sophie jokingly shared, ”That’s as close as I’m going to get, sadly… this time.”

Despite their lack of plans to climb the world famous peak, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have a busy schedule planned for their time in Nepal.

In addition to attending the Attestation Parade at the British Gurkha Camp in Pokhara, an event for new recruits, they will also visit Ghandruk, a village in the foothills.

Edward and Sophie are also going to be spending time in Kathmandu. They will be meeting several organisations that help provide support and healthcare victims of human trafficking and gender-based violence.

The couple will also be meeting Duke of Edinburgh Award participants.
