British Royals

Sophie makes revelation about Royal Family that might surprise

The Duchess of Edinburgh at a previous engagement.

The Duchess of Edinburgh showed why she is the Royal Family’s secret weapon when she showed off her scone-eating skills at EXPO 2025 and exposed the royal preference for Devon or Cornish-style scones.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh attended EXPO 2025 in Osaka, and the Duchess joined a children’s afternoon tea.

Sophie enjoyed classic finger sandwiches, tea, and scones with several children. And while she was at the tea party, she let slip that the Royal Family eats their scones the Devon way- cream first, then jam!

The ”correct” way to eat a scone with cream and jam is an ongoing debate in England. Devon’s cream first goes up against the Cornish way of putting the jam on to the scone before the cream.

She also gave a helpful hint to the kids, explaining that scone rhymes with gone, settling another debate.

The couple also visited the UK Pavilion at the expo. The pavilion is based on the theme “Come Build The Future”, and features the past, present, and future seen through the eyes of two Japanese children, Mei and Kenji, and their father.

It also features a second exhibition, “Come Power The Future”, that explores the UK’s role in clean energy innovation and the relationship between Japan and the UK.

The Duchess also visited the Women’s Pavilion which is focused on gender equality and the role of women across industry. She gave the opening remarks at a UN Women panel at the Women’s Pavilion, as well.
