The Queen undergoes surgery for cataract in her eye

Buckingham Palace has said that The Queen has undergone surgery to remove a cataract in her eye.

Her Majesty had the operation towards the beginning of May – before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding on May 19.

The Queen has been wearing dark sunglasses at engagements in the past few weeks including at garden parties and the Epsom Derby.

A palace spokesperson says it was “a short, planned procedure”.

It is believed to have taken place on 4 May at King Edward VII hospital – the same hospital Prince Philip had his hip operation in April.
