The Queen sends a message of condolence to the President of Israel after dozens are killed in stampede

The Queen has sent a message of condolence to the President of Israel following a stampede on Thursday which has resulted in the deaths of at least 45 people.

In a message to President  Reuven Rivlin, the 95-year-old passed on her sympathies to the family and friends of those killed.

In full, The Queen wrote: “I was deeply saddened by news of the disaster at the Lag B’Omer festival in Meron, Israel.

My thoughts are with all those who have been injured, and the friends and families of those who lost their lives. They have my deepest sympathies.

At least 45 people have been killed, with the death toll expected to rise further. An additional 150 people were also injured at the Lag B’Omer festival when people became trapped in an overcrowded passageway.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the scene and said it was one of the worst peacetime disasters the country had known.
