The Queen prepares to appoint Liz Truss as her 15th Prime Minister

The Queen will appoint Liz Truss as her next Prime Minister following the 47-year-old MPs successful election to become Leader of the Conservative Party.

Ms Truss defeated Rishi Sunak in the leadership contest to replace outgoing PM Boris Johnson.

Both Johnson and Truss will travel to Balmoral Castle on Tuesday 6th September where there will be a changing of power.

Firstly, Mr Johnson will be received in audience by the monarch where he will tender his resignation.

Minutes later, Liz Truss will visit The Queen where Her Majesty will ask the Foreign Secretary to form a government.

Upon the kissing of hands, Liz Truss will go from being Foreign Secretary to Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Ms Truss will be the 15th Prime Minister of The Queen’s reign, and will be the third female Prime Minister following on from Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.
