The Queen oversees scaled back Trooping the Colour

The Queen, Trooping 2020

The Queen has arrived for the scaled back version of Trooping the Colour which marks her official birthday this year. The parade is taking part at Windsor Castle.

Strict social distancing was in place as the very different Sovereign’s Birthday Parade got underway with the National Anthem.

BBC still/ fair use

The scaled back ceremony, in which the Welsh Guards are trooping their colour, marks the Monarch’s official birthday.

The Queen, along with the Duke of Edinburgh, has been staying at Windsor Castle since mid March because of the coronavirus pandemic. Prince Philip, who turned 99 three days ago, is understood to be watching events from inside the castle.

He will have witnessed a new practise for the parade as the troops ‘feathered’ away from one another as they turned to ensure they maintained social distancing.
