Queen Elizabeth II

The Queen is expected to become the world’s oldest Head of State within a matter of days

The Queen is on track to become the world’s oldest living Head of State within a matter of hours or days.

Queen Elizabeth, who is 91-years-old, will soon become the oldest world leader due to Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe’s impending resignation or impeachment.

President Mugabe, who is 93-years-old, is currently under house arrest following a coup d’état earlier this week by the Zimbabwean Defence Forces.

Since then, events have been fast moving, and both he and his wife, Grace, have been expelled from their own political party.

Pressure is now on the President to either resign or face impeachment.

If Mr Mugabe does leave office, The Queen will get another mention in the history books.

The 91-year-old has broken many records over the years due to her longevity. Last year, she became the world’s longest reigning monarch, having been on the throne for over 65 years.

In 2015, she became Britain’s longest ever reigning monarch, overtaking Queen Victoria who was on the throne for 23,226 days.

In 2007, she became the oldest Monarch in British history (a record also taken from Queen Victoria) as well as holding the record as the longest-married Monarch.

She is also the only British monarch to have celebrated her diamond and platinum wedding anniversaries.

At the time of this article’s publication, the world’s oldest Head of State is Robert Mugabe at the age of 93.

Her Majesty The Queen, is the second oldest at 91, followed by President Beji Caid Essebsi of Tunisia who is 90-years-old.

The oldest Head of State ever was Đỗ Mười, the leader of Vietnam, who ruled until he was 100-years-old.
