Stella McCartney: “I’d Love To Dress The Queen”

Sir Paul McCartney’s designer daughter, Stella was at Buckingham Palace last week to collect the Order of the British Empire honour.

While at the Palace, the British designer revealed she admires the Queen’s style and believed her to be a great fashion Icon, she said: “She’d be up there, I would have to say. She has a great timeless quality about her in what she wears and she’s very chic. You can’t knock her on her fashion, I don’t think.”

When asked if she would like to design for the 86-year-old monarch, McCartney revealed: “If she would have me, absolutely, I’d love to.”

On The Queen’s choice of style on the day, Stella continued: “She looks very chic I thought, beautiful.” Then she added laughing: “It should have been Stella McCartney of course – I slipped her a card.”

During the investiture ceremony, The Queen praised the Team GB kit for last year’s London Olympic games, which was designed by Stella McCartney.

“She said to me, ‘You seem very busy, very busy every time I see you,’and I said, ‘Oh well I’m not quite as busy as you, Ma’am.’, Stella revealed.

The designer said that The Queen had told her “You’ve been busy”, to which she replied: “Not as busy as you are.”

Stella McCartney, said that designing the Team GB and Paralympic GB Olympic kit was one of her career highlights saying: “I feel amazing. I told the Queen I designed the kit for her nation.

“It’s pretty high up there and marks an incredible moment in your life.”

Stella McCartney now joins fellow fashion designers Dame Vivienne Westwood and Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, as well as Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon in being awarded the Order of the British Empire. The OBE is one of the greatest honours given and are awarded for “prominent national or regional roles and to those making distinguished or notable contributions in their own specific areas of activity”.
