BREAKING: The Queen sends a message of support to Gareth Southgate ahead of England vs Italy in Euro 2020 final

The Queen has sent a message of support to England manager Gareth Southgate ahead of the country’s attempt at making history on Sunday in the Euro 2020 final.

In a message addressed to the 50-year-old football coach, Her Majesty reflected back to 1966 when she presented the World Cup trophy to England captain Bobby Moore, also at Wembley.

Although Her Majesty won’t be at the venue tomorrow to make the trophy presentation, it is clear that she has fond memories of that day.

In full, The Queen wrote: “Mr Gareth Southgate, OBE (Manager),

“55 years ago I was fortunate to present the World Cup to Bobby Moore and saw what it meant to the players, management and support staff to reach and win the final of a major international football tournament.

I want to send my congratulations and that of my family to you all on reaching the final of the European Championships, and send my good wishes for tomorrow with the hope that history will record not only your success but also the spirit, commitment and pride with which you have conducted yourselves.

“ELIZABETH R.

England will take on Italy in the final of the delayed 2020 European Championships on Sunday evening.

The last time England reached the final of a major international tournament was back in 1966 when they won the World Cup.

The Duke of Cambridge will attend the match at Wembley, and although there has been no confirmation, he would be one of the most likely candidates to make the trophy presentation in his capacity as chairman of the Football Association.
