Queen Elizabeth II

Queen sends condolences to Glasgow crash victims

<![CDATA[The Queen has sent her condolences to the victims of the Glasgow bin lorry crash.
Her Majesty's message was sent to the Lord Provost of Glasgow, Sadie Docherty, expressing sympathy to those who had lost relatives and friends in the accident, and also to those suffering injuries.
In a statement Her Majesty said:

Prince Philip and I were saddened by the news of the tragic accident in Glasgow yesterday.
Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of those who have lost loved ones and to those who have been injured.
This sad event is made even more difficult as it comes at Christmas time. I send my condolences to all the people of Glasgow.

The crash happened yesterday in Glasgow’s George square at around 2:30pm, killing 6 people and injuring more. It is thought five women and one man were killed, though they are yet to be identified. Eight people are currently in hospital receiving treatment following the collision, including the driver, who was reportedly slumped over the wheel when the accident occurred.
At the end of 2013, Glasgow suffered another tragedy with the crash of a helicopter into the Clutha bar in the city. The Queen also sent her condolences to the city then, and recently visited Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games, which were a huge success.
