Prime Minister Boris Johnson pays tribute to The Queen’s ‘many years of service’

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, has led tributes to The Queen on the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne.

Taking to Twitter, Mr Johnson said: “Today marks a truly historic moment as Her Majesty The Queen becomes the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.

“I pay tribute to her many years of service and look forward to coming together as a country to celebrate her historic reign in the summer.”

Although it is today when Her Majesty officially marks her Platinum Jubilee, the public celebrations will not take place until the beginning of June.

This is because February 6 is a truly sombre and reflective day for Her Majesty, where she remembers her father King George VI, who died unexpectedly.

The 95-year-old monarch is spending the day at her Norfolk retreat – Sandringham House in quiet comtemplation.

She did conduct a series events on the eve of her Platinum Jubilee, where she invited her Sandringham neighbours to her property for tea and cake.

Also paying tribute to The Queen on this historic occasion is the Leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition, Sir Keir Starmer.

The Labour Party leader said: “While today’s date will always be one of sadness for Her Majesty, as she remembers her beloved father King George VI, it is a chance for the rest of us to express our gratitude for a life of unprecedented dedication to duty and commitment to our country.”
