President Zelensky sends condolences on behalf of Ukraine to the UK

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sent his condolences to the UK on behalf of the Ukrainian people after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Zelensky, whose country is still battling the Russian invasion, took to Twitter to share his sympathy.

He said: “It is with deep sadness that we learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. On behalf of the [Ukranian] people, we extend sincere condolences to the @RoyalFamily, the entire United Kingdom and the Commonwealth over this irreparable loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.”

The President of Ukraine was one of the first foreign leaders to express his condolences and solidarity with the British people.

Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral Castle on 8 September at the age of 96.

Buckingham Palace said in a press release: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

“The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

Charles is now King Charles III. He released a statement on the evening of 8 September, saying his mother’s death was “a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.

“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother.  I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.

“During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”
