April is shaping up to be a busy month on the royal calendar as the Duchess of Cambridge is due with her third child and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting will be held between London and Windsor.
The British Government is hoping the gathering of 52 Commonwealth countries will allow for open talks on free-trade as Brexit is underway.
The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetin (CHOGM) will start on 16 April and seeing as that is right around the time the Duchess of Cambridge may be due, it is only natural to have Prince Harry and Meghan Markle step in their place as she has expressed an interest in learning more about the Commonwealth.
As Head of the Commonwealth, The Queen and her family will take part in a large part of the events. This includes Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and even the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge should she not be tucked away in the Lindo Wing.
The Express also hints that Meghan could attend a state banquet where she may wear a “royal tiara for the very first time”.
“The Royals pack a formidable soft power punch around the world as it is, but Meghan’s presence at the summit would propel CHOGM coverage to the front pages,” said a Whitehall insider, “Which is just what we want when projecting a positive vision of Britain overseas.”
“As we look to create a truly global Britain, the deep partnerships that we share through a 21st century Commonwealth can help us strengthen the prosperity and security of our own citizens, and those of our many friends and allies across the world.”
Westminster Abbey will be holding a Commonwealth Day service on 12 March which both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to be at.
