On Thursday night, a suspicious vehicle was spotted behind Buckingham Palace around 9 pm.
Found on a routine patrol, the vehicle caused Hyde Park Corner to be shut as a “controlled explosion” took place.
A spokesperson for MET told the Express: “Shortly before 9 pm, officers on routine patrol reported a suspicious vehicle parked near Hyde Park Corner.
“Officers remain in attendance. Road closures are currently in place.”
A tweet from the Metropolitan Police, later on, read: “We were dealing with a suspicious vehicle in Hyde Park Corner from 2100hrs. A controlled explosion was carried out at around 2140hrs and the incident was stood down – road closures now lifted. Thanks to the public for cooperation.”
Rich Martell was in the area at the time of the incident and provided his commentary on Twitter: “Something going on at Hyde park. Police blocked off roads. Looks like a suspicious vehicle left.
Later in the evening, road closures were lifted, and activities resumed as usual.
The Queen was not at home at Buckingham Palace and her, and Prince Philip departed to Sandringham earlier in the day.
The 91-year-old Queen was dressed in a purple coat with a matching headscarf as she got on board the 1-hour and 37-minute journey to King’s Lynn alongside her husband of 70 years, Prince Philip.
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh will not spend Christmas in Norfolk alone. Just as they do every year, members of the royal family will stay with Her Majesty during the festive season.
Sandringham has been privately owned by the royal family since 1862 after it was purchased by Queen Victoria at the request of her son and future King, Prince Edward.
It has remained close to the royal family since, and it is from here where the Queen’s Christmas speech is broadcast. The topic and issues raised in this year’s speech are not yet known.
Before the Queen set off to Sandringham, yesterday she hosted a pre-Christmas lunch for her family at Buckingham Palace. All of the senior members of the Royal Family were in attendance, including Meghan Markle.
