BREAKING: The Queen appoints “hero” MP Tobias Ellwood to Privy Council following London terror attack

The Queen has appointed Tobias Ellwood MP to the Privy Council following his response to the Westminster Terror attack, in which he tried to save the life of PC Keith Palmer.

Mr Ellwood’s actions were described as “heroic” as he rushed into danger in an attempt to save the life of PC Keith Palmer, who lost his life in Wednesday’s attack.

The Conservative MP, who is a former Army officer, performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on PC Palmer after he was stabbed by a 52-year-old terrorist.

Downing Street has said that his appointment is made in direct recognition of his role in responding to the situation.

Security Minister Ben Wallace has also been appointed to the Privy Council for the role he played on the day.

Both politicians will now receive national security briefings due to their new role.

Speaking after he tried to save PC Palmer’s life on Wednesday, he said: “I am a witness, I was the last one on the scene before he died so I am not allowed to say anything. Number 10 has been in touch so I’ll get into trouble.

“It is now murder, I was on the scene and as soon as I realised what was going on I headed towards it. It is a huge tragedy, it really is.

“I tried to stem the flow of blood and give mouth to mouth while waiting for the medics to arrive but I think he had lost too much blood.

“He had multiple wounds, under the arm and in the back.

“As I understand it the attacker has also died. I’m not allowed to say anything, I’ll get into trouble. It’s very sad.”

Mr Ellwood lost his brother to an act of terrorism in the 2002 Bali bombings where 202 people lost their lives.
