Man charged with treason over Windsor Castle incident

A man has been charged with offences under the Treason Act following on from an incident at Windsor Castle in December 2021.

Jaswant Singh Chail, a 20-year-old from Southampton, has been charged with three offences following an investigation from the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command.

Chail has been charged with the following:

– An offence under section 2 of the Treason Act, 1842;

– Threats to kill

– Possession of an offensive weapon

The incident took place on Christmas Day in 2021 when it was reported that a man had been arrested in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

The 20-year-old is currently detained ahead of an appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later this month.

A spokesperson from the Crown Prosecution Service said: “We remind all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr Chail are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.

“It is extremely important there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
