Queen Elizabeth II

A walk with her dogs and a quiet lunch – how The Queen will mark her 95th birthday

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II turns 95-year-old on Wednesday – a milestone birthday for the sovereign who been on the throne for almost seven decades.

However, the monarch’s birthday will be a very muted occasion with no celebrations.

This comes after the death of her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, with The Royal Family still being in mourning.

Despite Her Majesty reaching a milestone occasion in her life, Buckingham Palace will not release a portrait as they would have otherwise done.

There will also be no fun salutes and bells will not toll to honour the occasion.

The Queen is expected to spend part of her birthday walking her three dogs around the grounds of Windsor Castle.

She will also have a small lunch with her family at her residence.

The Royal Family have compiled a rota so members can visit the monarch, ensuring she is not alone.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral took place over the weekend following his death on April 9.

The official national period of mourning came to and end on Sunday, however, The Royal Family continues to grieve in private.

Although there will be no celebrations on Wednesday, the monarch does have another birthday in a few months time.

On June 12, The Queen will celebrate her official birthday with a scaled down Trooping the Colour in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle.

Although the public will not be able to join in celebrations because of ongoing public health restrictions, the event will be broadcast on television.
