A Party Fit for a Queen: Elizabeth’s 90th Birthday Celebrations Sell Out

A huge, multi-day celebration has been planned for The Queen’s 90th birthday next year and tickets to the event have already completely sold out.

The festivities, held from 12-15 May 2016, will see thousands descend on the private grounds of Windsor Castle, one of Her Majesty’s favourite residences.

“Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday Party will be a celebration of The Queen’s life, her love of horses, her dedication to the Commonwealth and international affairs and her deep involvement with the Navy, Army and Air Force,” reads the event’s official website.

Members of the Royal Family will be in attendance each night, with The Queen herself attending on the final evening.

90 certainly seems to be the lucky number – each evening, planned by the team behind The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee pageant, will bring together over 900 horses and 1,500 people in a celebration lasting over 90 minutes.

The Diamond Jubilee Pageant, held to celebrate The Queen’s 60 years in the throne, was an equestrian event held at Windsor Castle in May 2012, and included 500 horses and 800 performers. It was the first official event of The Queen’s Jubilee year and focused on The Queen’s love of all things equestrian and the multitudes of state visits she has undertaken.

Next year, as she reaches another personal milestone, Her Majesty will see the story of her life adapted using video projection, LED effects and theatrical lighting. From her birth through to World War Two, her marriage, coronation and remarkable reign, the story will use a host of horses, actors, bands and dancers.

The organisers are also keen for the event to be a celebration of the Commonwealth, said by some to be The Queen’s memorable legacy.

Some of the realms and countries involved include Chile, Oman, New Zealand, Canada, Fiji, Australia and Azerbaijan with military representation, including The Queen’s Mounted Troops and Pipers, expected to be a key part of the entertainment.

Earlier this year, The Queen became the United Kingdom’s longest reigning monarch, shattering a record set by Queen Victoria.

Ranging from £55 to £195, tickets for the event are highly sought after as many rushed to book for the once-in-a-lifetime event.

Although set to be enjoyable for all involved, attendees with higher priced tickets – thus in the prime spots – are expected to maintain a sense of decorum with smart dress codes being enforced across all four evenings.

Gentlemen are requested to wear a lounge suit or tailored jacket and tie whilst ladies should wear a smart dress, skirt or tailored trousers. Strictly off-limits are jeans or blue denim, jeggings, trainers and converse footwear. Parents are also reminded to dress their youngsters smartly.

Tickets, which went on sale yesterday morning, are virtually sold out already but there is still limited availability at Windsor Information Centre: 01753 743564
