Princess Anne says thank you as her 75th birthday brings wave of celebratory messages

The Princess Royal has sent a thank you message for a wave of birthday celebrations as she was inundated with good wishes as she turned 75.

Anne was said to want a low key birthday but another brand new portrait of the Princess was shared on the morning of her birthday with a sweet message.

Although Anne didn’t go as far as to sign off the social media post herself – she has said in the past she’s no fan of that method of communication – there was a message of gratitude with the image.

The post read ”Thank you for all of your kind birthday wishes for The Princess this week.”

It was accompanied by another new photo of Anne, taken by John Swannell, showing her in relaxed mood at her home.

The portrait comes hot on the heels of an official birthday image, also taken by John Swannell. showing the Princess at Gatcombe where she has lived for over fifty years.

Earlier this month, Buckingham Palace shared an official image of the Princess Royal with her husband, Sir Tim Laurence, taken just before the State Banquet for the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, which was held at Windsor Castle in July.

However, the royal birthday celebrations haven’t all been smooth sailing. Just hours before the Princess turned 75, the Royal Family published a list of things you might not know about Anne which contained one glaring comment that not even she knew about herself.

The Royal Family website erroneously claimed that HRH was stepmother to two children from a past relationship of Tim Laurence. It even named them as Tom and Amy before deleting the entire post when the mistake was pointed out – Tim Laurence has only been married to Anne and has no children.

Princess Anne is spending her birthday privately – it’s reported that she is sailing with Tim Laurence, far away from websites and social media.
