Princess Alexandra becomes a great grandmother for the first time

Princess Alexandra

Princess Alexandra has become a great grandmother for the first time.

Her granddaughter, Flora Vesterberg, welcomed her first child just days ago, She and her husband. Timothy Vesterberg, revealed the arrival of their daughter on Instagram.

The baby girl, who is 62nd in line to the throne, was born on July 8th 2026 with her parents sharing their happy news on July 11th after mum and daughter had had a few days to recover.

Proud parents Flora and Timothy also shared a photo of their little girl who was dressed in bright white with blue trim – blue was the tradition colour for girls for centuries.

Flora is the daughter of James Ogilvy, the only son of Princess Alexandra and her late husband, Sir Angus Ogilvy.

Flora, 31, announced her pregnancy earlier this year and was last seen at the wedding celebrations of her cousin, Lady Marina Windsor, at Hovingham Hall just weeks before the birth of the new baby.

The littlest member of the extended Royal Family has been named Isabel Marina, with her parents explaining their choices as they shared their happy news.

Flora said that her daughter’s name means ”of the sea’ where she added ”we always feel most at peace”.

And she acknowledged the royal link in the choice. Marina was the name of Flora’s great grandmother who she never met.

Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark married George, Duke of Kent in 1934 and they had three children together: Edward, the current Duke of Kent, born in 1935 and Prince Michael of Kent, born in 1942, as well as their only daughter, Princess Alexandra, who was bornin 1936 on Christmas Day, and a fortnight after the Abdication of King Edward VIII.

Princess Marina was one of the most popular members of the Royal Family until her death in 1968.

Isabel, which means ‘God is my oath’, is becoming a popular name in the Royal Family. Lord Frederick Windsor and his wife, Sophie, called their second daughter, Isabella. The name and its variants was rarely used for centuries but in the Middle Ages, Isabel was one of the most poplar royal names with several Queens of England using a form of it.

Queen Isabella was the wife of King John while Edward II also married a French princess with the name. His wife, Queen Isabella, became known to history as the ‘She Wolf of France’ after she masterminded a plot to depose her hugely unpopular husband. Perhaps the most unfortunate was Isabelle of Valois who was married to King Richard II at the age of just six and who was kept closely guarded after he was deposed in 1399. She later returned to France but died young. Her sister, Katherine of Valois, married Henry V and, after his death, she wed Owen Tudor. Their grandson became King Henry VII and Charles III, as well as Flora Vesterberg, is directly descended from them.

Flora and Timothy Vesterberg are now at home with their new daughter.
