Prince William, Duke of Cornwall in special message to history makers

Prince William, The Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall

The Duke of Cornwall has sent a special message to a history making group.

The footballers of Truro City received a special good luck message from their county’s duke ahead of an important day.

Truro City are the first football team from Cornwall to reach the National League, the fifth tier of English football. They are also the first Cornish side to go fully professional.

It’s a big moment for the sport in the county and Cornwall’s duke was ready with words of support.

William sent them a special message, showing his own football fan credentials. The Duke of Cornwall said ”Good luck to the Tinners”, a reference to the team’s nickname.

And he showed he’d bee following the club closely in the letter, which was written to Connor Riley-Lowe, captain of Truro, by Prince William’s private secretary.

The Duke made reference to Truro being forced to play outside of Cornwall for several years while their new ground was built.

The note read ”The Duke of Cornwall has asked me to write ahead of your home match against York on Saturday next week. The Duke knows that you have only just returned home, after a few years away, and like everyone in Cornwall, will be cheering you on. Prince William has asked me to pass on his warmest congratulations in getting promoted to the National League as Cornwall’s first professional team.”

Prince William is known for his love of the beautiful game and was most recently seen cheering on the Lionesses as England’s women claimed the Euros with a thrilling win over Spain in Switzerland.

William was accompanied to that match by Princess Charlotte who is also known to be a big footie fan.
