Prince Philip is laid to rest in the Royal Vault

The Duke of Edinburgh’s coffin has been lowered into the Royal Vault at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor.

The Dean of Windsor read the commendation over the coffin as it was laid to rest beneath the ancient stones of the Chapel.

”May thy portion this day be in peace, and thy dwelling in the heavenly Jerusalem” was pronounced by David Conner, as Prince Philip’s interment took place. The thirty mourners in the Chapel, led by The Queen, stood for the solemn moment which they watched from their places in the Quire.

The Garter Principal King of Arms pronounced the titles and styles of the Duke of Edinburgh, for the final time.

A lone piper then played and continued his lament as he walked away from the Chapel, his music fading into the air as the Duke’s coffin was lowered into the vault.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh died on April 9th 2021 at Windsor Castle. He was 99 years old.
