Less than a month after King Charles and Queen Camilla made their first visit to Canada as Sovereign and consort, another royal visit to the country has already been announced.Â
The Duke of Edinburgh will be visiting Canada towards the end of June.
On 25 June, His Royal Highness is expected to visit Prince Edward Island (named for his great-great-great-great grandfather, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent). He is currently the colonel-in-chief of the Prince Edward Island Regiment – a Primary Reserve armoured reconnaissance unit. The regiment is celebrating its 150th anniversary whilst Prince Edward is visiting.
This trip visit will be the first royal visit to the province in a decade. Prince Edward, as Earl of Wessex, last visited the island 2015 to celebrate the regiment’s last major anniversary.
The Prince will then travel on to Toronto on 28 June; with further details are expected to be released closer to the time.
On 1 July, the Duke will follow in his elder brother’s footsteps and head to the capital city – Ottowa. During this stop, he will take part Canada Day celebrations before returning to London.
The Duke of Edinburgh has visited Canada seventeen times on official duties. Whilst he is often joined by the Duchess of Edinburgh, she will not be joining on this occasion.
