Prince William provides an update on the Duke of Edinburgh after he spends a sixth night in hospital

Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Cambridge has provided a short update on the Duke of Edinburgh as the 99-year-old Prince spends a seventh day in hospital.

Whilst visiting a vaccination centre in King’s Lynn on Monday, Prince William was asked how his grandfather was.

Whilst giving a wink of the eye, William said: “Yes, he is okay – they’re keeping an eye on him.”

This will be seen as hugely positive news by many, not least as Buckingham Palace has not offered an update on Prince Philip’s health since he was first admitted to Edward VII Hospital last week.

Prince William is visiting a vaccination centre in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, to pay tribute to the successful vaccine roll-out programme which has already seen nearly 18m people receive their first dosage.

At the centre, the Duke met and spoke to NHS staff, volunteers and those receiving their vaccinations.

Buckingham Palace has not issued an update on Prince Philip’s health since Wednesday when a spokesperson said he was “in good spirits”.

The Duke was visited at hospital on Saturday by his son, the Prince of Wales, who made a 200-round mile trip from Gloucestershire to attend his father in Central London.

Prince Charles only spent around 30 minutes in the hospital before once again departing for Highgrove House where he and the Duchess of Cornwall are currently residing.

Visitors are currently banned from seeing relatives receiving treatment at the hospital due to government guidelines unless there are “exceptional circumstances.”

Prince Philip is expected to remain in hospital for at least the first part of this week.
