New details of Commonwealth Day celebrations revealed

New details have been revealed about this year’s Commonwealth Day celebrations. Set to take place on Monday 14 March, the service will be the first in-person gathering of the Commonwealth since the global health crisis began in 2020.

Members of the Royal Family are set to attend the annual Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey. The service will reflect on Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee and the special focus the role of service plays in the lives of communities and people across the Commonwealth.

The service will include an address by Lord Bishop Sentamu, the former Archbishop of York. There will also be a reflection by Elizabeth Kite, a young Tongan leader. There are a number of musical performances scheduled including performances from Mica Paris and Emeli SandĂ©. The service will also mark the world premiere of ‘Beacon of Brightest Light’, composed by Debbie Wiseman – the song is inspired by the Platinum Jubilee.

Later in the evening, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will be guests of the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Baroness Scotland at the annual Marlborough House reception. Marlborough House serves as the home of the Commonwealth Secretariat.

Commonwealth Day is always held on the second Monday in March. This year’s service, organised by The Royal Commonwealth Society will be broadcast live on BBC One in the UK.
