Music royalty Beyoncé nervous to meet the Duke and Duchess of Sussex

Back when she was an actress on Suits, the Duchess of Sussex posed against a brick wall with a bottle of hot sauce poking out of her bag, paying homage to lyrics from Beyoncé’s song “Formation.” Meghan posted the picture on her now-deleted Instagram account, with the caption “The closest I will ever come to channeling @Beyonce #hotsauceinmybagswag #actually #just #hotsauceinmybag.”

But in a complete reversal of roles, this week, it was Beyoncé who was nervous about meeting the royal couple on the yellow carpet at the European Premiere of Disney’s The Lion King.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, Billy Eichner, who voiced the role of Timone, in the movie, revealed that all the cast who attended the premiere were nervous because of the formality of the occasion.

“We were all kinda nervous, even Beyoncé,” Eichner, told a shocked Kimmel, who interrupted saying he thought the royal couple should have been bowing to her, and they both agreed Queen Bey, was American royalty.

“What makes you nervous is that the days leading up to it, they email you a protocol of how you’re supposed to greet Prince Harry and Meghan,” Eichner continued. “You’re supposed to say, ‘Your Royal Highness,’ you can’t speak until your hands are in a handshake with his. My plus one, my guest I brought with me, my very good friend Jared, they said, he had to stand behind me and not speak unless he was spoken to. I’m not kidding. I’m like, does that same rule apply to Jay-Z? I have a feeling it doesn’t.”

It turns out, Meghan and Eichner attended Northwestern University around the same time, so they ended up having a chat about their acting professors.

While Eichner admits he “freaked out” the greetings went very smoothly, and he said the Duke and Duchess “were very, very nice and totally chill and down to Earth and lovely.”

Beyoncé also told the royal reporters at the premiere, afterwards, that “they are so sweet.”

In fact, the two ladies got along so well, many observers had trouble believing it was the first time they had met.

Both mums of young children, with a shared passion for promoting women’s rights, we are sure this won’t be the last time we see Beyoncé and Meghan together.
