Lady Sarah Chatto takes on poignant new role

The late Queen’s beloved niece, Lady Sarah Chatto, has taken up another royal-related duty with a new position announced.

The Royal Ballet School shared that Lady Sarah Chatto will now be President of the Royal Ballet School. Her late mother, Princess Margaret Rose, was President of the Royal Ballet School from 1956 until her passing in 2002, making it a meaningful appointment.

King Charles served as President of the Royal Ballet School while Prince of Wales, but is now Patron of the school. Lady Sarah is not new to the organisation though, as she was Vice-President of the RBS from 2004 until her new appointment.

Princess Margaret was heavily involved with the RBS as President, and named both the Anna Pavlovna Studio at White Lodge and the Margot Fonteyn Theatre.

Anglo-Irish dancer Ninette de Valois founded the Royal Ballet School in 1926 as the Academy of Choreographic Art and was attached to the Sadlers’s Wells Ballet company. When granted a royal charter in 1956, the company was then known as the Royal ballet and the school as the Royal Ballet School.

As The King’s cousin, Lady Sarah does not carry out official engagements though she is involved with many artistic organisations and charities. She often attends events with the family; last week, she was at Royal Ascot in the Royal Procession.
