<
Prince Charles and the Duchess will attend several engagements
together on Thursday 5th June. In relation to Charles’s role as
Colonel in Chief of the Army Air Corps, they will both meet
veterans of the Glider Pilot Regiment and will visit the 70th Power
Boat Squadron, where the Royal couple will witness a display of
power boats that were involved in the Normandy Landings. They will
also attend a lunch with veterans of the Parachute Regiment.
On the same day, Prince Charles will undertake some solo
engagements, including presenting a bust of Major Jack Watson MC to
the Commune of Ranville on behalf of the Parachute Regiment. As the
Colonel in Chief of the Parachute Regiment, The Prince of Wales
will attend a commemorative parachute drop by representatives of
British, American, French and Canadian Armed Forces. The Prince
will also attend a memorial service to commemorate the actions of
Airborne Forces at Le Mesnil Bavent. That evening, Charles will
attend a reception on behalf of the Parachute Regiment.
The Duchess of Cornwall will undertake one solo engagement on this
day. As Colonel in Chief of The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, she
will meet veterans and serving members of the regiment. Afterwards,
she will tour the Juno Beach Centre.
On Friday 6th June, Charles and Camilla will undertake all of
their engagements together. They will attend a Royal British Legion
Service of Remembrance at Bayeux Cathedral, followed by a service
of Remembrance at Bayeux War Graves Cemetery.
Following this, the Royal couple will attend the Ceremony of
Remembrance at Colleville-Montgomery-Plage to commemorate the
allied Normandy Landings. The final engagement of the day will be
attendance at the Ceremony of Remembrance at the Juno Beach Centre
to commemorate Canada’s role in the Normandy Landings.
The Prince of Wales attended the 60th anniversary commemorations of
D-Day in 2004. His engagements at that time included laying a
wreath at the Memorial to the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards and
taking salute from veterans of the 3rd Parachute Brigade.
Her Majesty The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and the Duke and
Duchess of Cambridge will also be travelling to Normandy to
commemorate the anniversary in June.
