There will soon be another way to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. The Royal Voluntary Service and The Big Jubilee Lunch are searching for Platinum Champions.
This award will look for volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to the life of others. While very few details of the award are known, it is believed the award will go out to several people instead of just one particular winner. Those who take home the prize will be invited to a special Jubilee lunch on Sunday, 5 June, the end of the official national Jubilee celebration.
People will not be able to submit applications for the award. But instead, they must be nominated. Particularly the RVS (Royal Voluntary Service) is looking for people who have helped others over a period of time. As part of the nomination, the service you have given must be recognised as well as how long you’ve given that service.
The Duchess of Cornwall is President of the RVS and has served in the role since December 2012. It is said she will take part in this particular award. The Queen became Patron of Women’s Voluntary Services (WVS) on 22 July 1952 and in 1966, recognised the organisation for the people of Great Britain by adding “Royal” to its title. It became known as the WRVS until 2013 when the organisation changed its name to Royal Voluntary Service.
The Queen’s grandmother Queen Mary was the first patron, granting her patronage only three days after the organisation was formed by Lady Reading on 20 May 1938.
