Carriage rides and pageantry mark start of Korean State Visit

The King and Queen welcome the President of South Korea and his wife for a State Visit on 21 November 

King Charles and Queen Camilla welcomed President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife, Kim Heon Hee, at Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall for a formal ceremony. The Prince and Princess of Wales also attended the ceremony where The King and the President inspected the Honour Guard together. 

Both royal couples and the President and First Lady processed by carriage down The Mall to Buckingham Palace. The King gave a private lunch for the couple at Buckingham Palace and then accompanied the couple to the Picture Gallery to view several Royal Collection Trust items that have strong connections with South Korea.

The Duke of Gloucester attended a ceremony with the President and First Lady to lay wreaths at the Korean War Memorial in Victoria Embankment Gardens. The ceremony marks 70 years since the end of the Korean War.

The King and Queen then hosted the couple at Buckingham Palace for a State Dinner. The Prince and Princess of Wales attended; the Princess wore a tiara that has not been seen in nearly a century, the Strathmore Rose Tiara. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and The Princess Royal also attended. Other guests included the members of BlackPink and Cho So-hyun, a Birmingham City footballer.
