France announces King Charles III’s State Visit is postponed

The first State Visit of King Charles III has been postponed.

The Elysee Palace has just announced that the trip, set to start on March 26th 2023, is off for the time being as violent protests against planned pension reforms continue across France.

The British government confirmed the decision to halt the trip soon afterwards.

King Charles and Queen Camilla were due to visit Paris and Bordeaux. Both cities have been hit by large demonstrations.

Strikes and protests are being held throughout France over President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to push plans to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 through parliament without the usual votes.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla will still carry out their State Visit to Germany which starts on March 29th 2023.
