King Charles gives thanks for dedicated service of Queen Elizabeth II

As he marks the first anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, His Majesty has paid tribute to her devoted service.

In a short speech released one minute after midnight on September 8th 2023, The King said ”“In marking the first anniversary of Her late Majesty’s death and my Accession, we recall with great affection her long life, devoted service and all she meant to so many of us.”

His Majesty also reflected on his own reign which now reaches a year. Charles III said ”I am deeply grateful, too, for the love and support that has been shown to my wife and myself during this year as we do our utmost to be of service to you all.”

There was also a written version of the speech released, signed ‘Charles R’.

Queen Elizabeth II died at 3.10pm on September 8th 2022 at Balmoral Castle. She was 96 years old and had reigned for 70 years, 7 months and 2 days, the longest of any British Monarch. King Charles III took the throne at that exact moment. He was crowned on May 6th 2023.
