King Charles III and Queen Camilla will host their first State Visit when they welcome the President of South Africa to the UK.
President Cyril Ramaphosa, accompanied by Dr Tshepo Motsepe, will make a State Visit in November. They will be hosted at Buckingham Palace.
The State Visit takes place between November 22nd and November 24th and it is expected it will include a State Banquet, hosted by The King.
King Charles, while Prince of Wales, was heavily involved in the three State Visits to the UK made by Presidents of South Africa in the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. During the historic visit of Nelson Mandela in 1996, King Charles attended the State Banquet for the President. In 2001, The King received President Thabo Mbeki at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and hosted meetings with him involving Scottish business leaders. King Charles and Queen Camilla officially welcomed President Jacob Zuma at the start of his State Visit in 2010.
King Charles and Queen Camilla visited South Africa in 2011. The King also visited in 1997.
State Visits are formal visits by Heads of State, designed to strengthen ties between the two nations involved. The last incoming State Visit to the UK was in 2019 when Queen Elizabeth II hosted then US President, Donald Trump.
