Katy Perry not impressed by Duchess of Sussex’s wedding gown

Singer Katy Perry has come out with criticism of the Duchess of Sussex’s wedding gown telling entertainment news program Entertainment Tonight “I would have done one more fitting” adding, as if to temper her comment, “I’m never not going to tell the truth! One more fitting, but I love you.”

When asked if she thought the Duchess of Cambridge – who wore a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown at her 2011 wedding to Prince William – looked better than the Duchess of Sussex in her Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy gown, Ms Perry answered empathically: “Kate, Kate, Kate won, Kate won!”

Despite the fact that the gown wasn’t what she might have gone for, Ms Perry shared that she is “so happy” for the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex even though “I don’t know them from Adam” and praised the Duchess of Sussex for her philanthropic pursuits saying “it’s amazing what she’s doing with all this, her humanitarian efforts. You know, the fact that she’s a proud feminist, I love all that. I support her as another woman and love her and wish them both well.”

Fans of the most recent royal bride were quick to jump to her defense online, calling Perry a “hypocrite” for comparing the two Duchesses – or “pitting” them against one another – when she, herself, has publicly declared herself a feminist.

Twitter responses included: “She uses the term feminist in one sentence then comparing Meghan to Kate in the next. Will we stop pitting women against women any time soon? Orrrrrrr no?” and “Why do women hate on other women so much? do you honestly think that she didn’t have all the fittings she needed? she married a royal. budget not an issue. she had the wedding she wanted.”

The Duchess of Sussex’s wedding gown featured a trailing veil embroidered around the edges with floral details representing the 53 countries of the commonwealth.
